SUBJECT:       Appointment to the Street Fair Review Committee

 

DATE:             January 13, 2003

 

 

On October 21, 2002, the Council adopted a resolution (attached) that established the Street Fair Review Committee.  The Council at its November 25^th meeting delayed action on this item to December 12^th, 2002, when appointments were made.  Tonight, the Council may make an appointment to the one remaining seat on this Committee, in the category of Downtown Merchant.

 

The following persons were appointed on December 12, 2002:

 

• Greg Bell, Fred Battle - residents at-large
• Mildred Council, Downtown merchant (1 vacancy)
• Fabian Farrington, non-profit representative
• Paul Hepp, Wylie Quinn - Downtown Church representatives
• Joe Herzenberg, Meg McGurk - neighborhood representatives
• Edward Lebetkin - Street Fair Artist
• Joyce Preslar - Street Fair Entertainer

 

The following representatives have been selected by the Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Commission to represent them on this Committee:  Paul P. Caldwell, Pam Hemminger, Terri Tyson, and Terry Blalock. 

 

A recommendation for appointment from the Parks and Recreation Commission for the remaining vacancy is attached.

 

Copies of the applications of those eligible for this seat are attached.  Copies of the ballots are attached.

Resolution Adopted on October 21, 2002

 

 

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MANAGER AND THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION TO RECRUIT MEMBERS FOR A STREET FAIR REVIEW COMMITTEE (2002-10-21/R-3.1)

 

WHEREAS, the Council has requested that a thorough review of the Town-sponsored annual street fairs be conducted; and

 

WHEREAS, a conceptual plan committee would allow citizens, nearby residents and property owners, business owners, churches, and local artists to participate in the review process;

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Manager and Parks and Recreation Commission are hereby authorized to recruit the following applicants for a Street Fair Review Committee:

 

• Parks and Recreation Commission (4)
• Chapel Hill residents at large (2)
• Neighborhood representatives (2)
• Downtown Commission (1)
• Downtown merchants (2)
• Downtown churches (2)
• Street Fair artist (1)
• Street Fair entertainer (1)
• Street Fair non-profit organization (1)
• University of North Carolina (1)
• Visitors Bureau (1)

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council that the Manager is authorized to report back to the Council with a recommended list of participants on November 25, 2002.
