Dear Mayor Foy:
Dan Okun informed me that he has discussed with you the possibility of the Town permitting the display of bus posters with peace messages on a non-charge public service basis. The bus card project is an effort by Elders for Peace to express their concern about the looming war against Iraq and the subsequent widening conflict.
Elders for Peace is the name chosen by 50+ residents of Carol Woods Retirement Center. The residents spontaneously gathered on December 23 and have been organizing themselves since then. Churches have been contacted, statements have been sent to newspapers and now the project to display the bus cards is underway.
The cards would have a simple message. Some possible examples are:
Everyone wins without war
War destroys. Peace builds
Peace is Patriotic
The sponsor of the cards - Elders for Peace - would be identified.
We hope the Council will act favorably on this request.
