SUBJECT:       Proposed Adopt-a-Trail Program

On February 19, 2003, the Greenways Commission met with the Town Council and proposed that the Town start an Adopt-a-Trail program for the Town’s greenways system. Participants would monitor and clean segments of trails. The Commission proposed that the program would include signage provided by the Town that would recognize the individual or group adopting each particular trail segment.

 

At that meeting, a Council member asked that additional research be performed in order to determine what works and doesn’t work in other communities.

 

We will contact other communities this month in order to develop a recommended program for Chapel Hill. We will present our findings to the Greenways Commission in May and secure their recommendations. In June we will prepare a report and recommendations for Council consideration.
