AGENDA #1
MEMORANDUM
TO: Town Council
FROM: Mayor Kevin Foy
SUBJECT: Recognition of Retired Town Employees
DATE: April 14, 2003
Several times a year, we pause to recognize the employees who have retired recently. We would like to thank each of these employees for their hard work and for the vital role they played in providing service to our citizens.
We will call each of the retirees to come forward to receive a plaque on behalf of the Town Council.
Archie Poteat, retires from the Landscape Division of the Public Works Department with more than five years of service. Archie consistently arrived at work early and showed a continued interest in improving his performance. Even as Archie’s health began to decline, he would not allow this to slow him down; and, it’s been said that many healthy crew members had to work hard to keep up with Archie’s pace. He is sorely missed in the Landscape Division.
Lonnie Degraffenreidt, Construction Crew Supervisor with the Public Works Department, retires with 23 years of service. Lonnie came to work for the Town in October 1979 as a Truck Driver in the Streets Division. Lonnie has served as a Mason, an Equipment Operator II, a Construction Worker Level III, and Construction Worker Level V. In October 2000, Lonnie became Construction Crew Supervisor and served in that position until his retirement. Lonnie has been a leader, teacher, and friend to those he has worked with over the years. His knowledge and expertise will continue to benefit the community through those he has taken the time to teach and lead throughout his tenure with the Town.
LaVerne Elmore, Purchasing Agent and Contracts Coordinator with the Finance Department, retires after 30 years of service with the Town. LaVerne began her career with the Town in 1972 in the tax office, working with Sandra Perkins and Dave Roberts, the former Town Tax Collector. In 1978, she transferred to the Purchasing Division of the Finance Department, where she worked until her retirement about two weeks ago. In 1980, LaVerne was promoted to the position of buyer and served under several purchasing agents during the next few years. In 1994, she was promoted to Purchasing Agent and Contracts Coordinator, where she has served for the last eight years. We wish her well in her retirement.
