SUBJECT: Report on Crime Rates Per Population

At the April 2 budget work session we presented to the Council a table comparing the number of reported crimes in the first two quarters of 2002 in Northside to the numbers Town-wide.
During the work session a Council member asked that the crime data be presented in a per-capita format. A Council member also asked that we include in the table the number of drug charges that occurred Town-wide and in Northside.
The table below presents six-month, per-capita crime rates and drug charges in Northside and Town-wide. For the purposes of this report Northside includes the area bordered by Church Street, West Rosemary Street, Sunset Drive and McMasters Street. According to the 2002 census, 1,083 residents live in this area.
