SUBJECT:       Council Work Session on Affordable Housing

The purpose of this working paper is to propose a schedule for a Council Work Session to discuss affordable housing, non-profit organizations and the allocation of federal funds.    

 

BACKGROUND

 

During a discussion of goals for 2003 at a Work Session on January 17, 2003, the Council discussed scheduling a work session to discuss a variety of housing related issues.  Scheduling this work session in the second quarter of 2003 was approved as a 2003 Council Goal on February 24, 2003. 

 

The Council identified the following issues for discussion at a Work Session:

 

1.      Allocation of Community Development and HOME Program funds;

2.      Improving the capacity for non-profit organizations; and

3.      Building the most housing for the funds available.

 

On January 17, 2003, a Council member suggested scheduling this discussion on a budget work session date. 

 

We presented potential dates to the Council at a Work Session on April 2, 2003, and were asked to identify new dates in June for consideration.

 

DISCUSSION

 

We propose the following potential dates for a Work Session:

 

 

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

We recommend that the Council select a date for this work session.  Once the date is set, we recommend inviting affordable housing providers and other interested parties to attend this work session (please see attached list).
