TO: Mayor and Town Council
FROM: W. Calvin Horton, Town Manager
SUBJECT: Follow-up on Columbia Place Parking Restrictions
DATE: June 9, 2003
In the fall of 2002, the Columbia Place Homeowners Association requested that the Town establish parking restrictions on streets in the Columbia Place neighborhood. In the petition to the Council, members of the Association noted their concerns about traffic congestion and traffic safety caused by on-street parking by non-residents.
On April 28, 2003, the Council received a report from the Manager that recommended the enactment of two ordinances that would establish “no parking” zones on selected streets within the Columbia Place neighborhood. The Council enacted the ordinances, which became effective on June 2.
On May 9, representatives of the Police Department met with two members of the Homeowners Association to review the current parking situation and to discuss what impact the new ordinances would have on the parking and traffic problems. The Association members expressed their support for the new ordinances and believed that they would significantly improve the existing situation.
The Police Department and the Parking Services Division will share responsibility for enforcing the new parking ordinances. The Police Department’s community services unit will continue to work with the Homeowners Association in an attempt to rectify the parking and traffic problems.
