A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO CONDUCT A PILOT WIRELESS PROJECT IN THE CRAIG-GOMAINS HOUSING AREA FOR A MAXIMUM PERIOD OF ONE YEAR (2005-11-21/R-7)

WHEREAS, the Town of Chapel Hill has initiated a process to review wireless Internet access; and

WHEREAS, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools has initiated a Connect 2 School program to provide students access to educational resources via the Internet; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Chapel Hill currently has equipment and resources necessary to conduct a pilot wireless project; and

WHEREAS, the high school and middle school students in Craig-Gomains housing area would benefit from access to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools online educational resources;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council authorizes the Town Manager to conduct a pilot project to provide wireless access to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools network for students in Craig-Gomains housing area and to continue such service for a period of one year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an evaluation report be provided to the Council on a biannual basis.
