A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CONSTRUCTION OF SEVERAL PROJECTS AROUND THE TOWN HALL/FIRE STATION PROPERTY TO IMPROVE PEDESTRIAN ACCESS AND CIRCULATION (2006-02-27/R-5)

WHEREAS, the Chapel Hill Town Council is interested in providing safe and effective means of access and circulation for pedestrians on the Town Hall/Fire Station property; and

WHEREAS, the Town has studied the property and has prepared a preliminary list of improvement projects for consideration; and

WHEREAS, the Council received comments and suggestions from applicable advisory boards regarding the proposed improvement projects; and

WHEREAS, the Council received a report from the Manager recommending several projects be implemented around the Town Hall/Fire Station Property;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council authorizes the Manager to implement the following projects:

• Installation of a flashing warning light and “Caution - Intersection Ahead” sign at the crest of the hill on North Columbia Street north of Stephens Street;
• Construction of a combination speed table/crosswalk on North Columbia Street south of its intersection with Carr Street; and
• Construction of a speed table on North Columbia Street south of its intersection with Stephens Street.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council authorizes the expenditure of up to $10,000 from 2003 Street and Sidewalk Improvement Bonds for construction/installation of the above noted projects.
