A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING INSTALLATION OF SEVERAL TRAFFIC SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS IN THE VICINITY OF THE COKER HILLS WEST NEIGHBORHOOD (2006-09-11/R-8)

WHEREAS, at its June 12, 2006 meeting, the Council received a petition from the Coker Hills West Neighborhood requesting certain traffic safety improvements; and

WHEREAS, the Council is interested in providing for the safety of pedestrians and drivers in and near the Coker Hills West Neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, the Council received the Manager’s report with several traffic safety recommendations;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council hereby authorizes the Manager to use $7,000 from 2003 Sidewalk and Street Improvements Bonds for implementing the following traffic safety improvements:

Install crosswalk markings with ADA ramps at the intersection of Kensington Drive and Curtis Road/ North Lake Shore Drive.

Install crosswalk markings on Rock Creek Road at North Lake Shore Drive.

Install “intersection” warning sign on North Lakeshore Drive in advance of Rock Creek Road.

Install mid-block crosswalk with an in-street pedestrian sign on Kensington Drive near the school path.
