WHEREAS, in 1999, the Chapel Hill Town Council established regulations on the amount of money that may be contributed to a candidate running for election to Town office and on the disclosure of the names of contributors; and
WHEREAS, due to the passage of time and inflation and a recent decision of the Supreme Court of the United States related to this matter, the Council finds that it is appropriate to review those regulations to see if changes should be considered;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council calls a public forum for November 13, 2006, to receive citizen comment on the issues of maximum campaign contributions and the disclosure of the names of contributors to Town municipal election candidates.
This the 9th of October, 2006.
