Subject: Old Chapel Hill Cemetery

Regardless of the final outcome of the election results, I would hope that the matter of establishing a citizen’s advisory group for the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery would have traction – even before the current council finishes its activities for this year.

I have attached a draft of possible Council action which is patterned after the Carrboro cemetery advisory structure, has added unique touches for Chapel Hill, and covers the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery, as well as the other city cemeteries.

The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill stands ready to develop complimentary structure to work with the town’s advisory group and its Executive Director, Ernest Dollar, is planning the organization’s active involvement (he has relatives buried in the Old Cemetery).

The time is right and the forces to support this action are ready – awaiting council action.

Many thanks for this consideration -
