AGENDA #4h

MEMORANDUM

TO:                  Mayor and Town Council

FROM:            W. Calvin Horton, Town Manager

SUBJECT:      Extending the existing No Parking Anytime Zone at the Intersection of San Sophia Drive and Telluride Trail

DATE:            January 23, 2006

PURPOSE

Enactment of the attached ordinance would extend the existing No Parking Anytime zone at the intersection of San Sophia Drive and Telluride Trail.  Please see the area map provided in Attachment 1.

We recommend enactment of the attached ordinance.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

At its March 7, 2005 meeting, the Town Council enacted an ordinance prohibiting on-street parking within 75 feet of the intersection of San Sophia Drive and Telluride Trail.  Subsequently, Town staff installed appropriate signs to comply with the ordinance.

The owner of 200 Telluride Trail, a property adjacent to the San Sophia Drive and Telluride Trail intersection, requested that we adjust the existing No Parking Anytime zone adjacent to his property to the extent that would allow relocation of the no parking signs from their present location in front of his house to the edge of his property frontage.

We believe that this request can be accommodated by the Town without significant negative effects on traffic circulation, public safety or parking conditions for neighboring properties.  We will relocate the no parking signs if the Town Council approves revision of the existing No Parking Anytime zone as requested.

MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION

That the Council enact the attached ordinance that would revise the current No Parking Anytime zone at the intersection of San Sophia Drive and Telluride Trail.
