AGENDA #5
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor and Town Council
FROM: W. Calvin Horton, Town Manager
SUBJECT: Change to Public Hearing Date: Land Use Management Ordinance Text Amendment – Changeable or Movable Signs Outside of the Town Center Zoning Districts
DATE: May 15, 2006
In May of 2005, the Town received a petition from several business owners along East Franklin Street to allow changeable or movable signs (referred to in the petition as sandwich boards) for businesses outside the Town Center zoning districts. On October 10, 2005 the Town Council called the May 15 Public Hearing. The Planning Board has asked for more time to consider the proposed changes and we have not advertised this hearing.
We recommend that the Council adopt the resolution, delaying the Public Hearing to the June 19, 2006 meeting.
BACKGROUND
On May 2, 2006 the Planning Board considered a proposal to amend the Land Use Management Ordinance. The proposed amendment would permit, under certain situations, changeable or moveable signs outside the Town Center zoning districts. The Planning Board requested more information. The item is scheduled to return to the Planning Board on June 6, 2006.
For these reasons, we recommend that the Council delay the Public Hearing to amend the sign regulations in Land Use Management Ordinance at the June 19, 2006 meeting.
RECOMMENDATION
We recommend that the Council adopt the resolution, delaying the Public Hearing on the Land Use Management Ordinance Text Amendment to Changeable or Movable Signs Outside of the Town Center zoning districts, to the June 19, 2006 Public Hearing.
