I have attached for your information language that I have proposed be included in the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan regarding the alignment of a fixed guideway transit corridor between the University of North Carolina campus and the Horace Williams property.

I believe the proposed language reflects the Council’s position, as expressed in the adoption of the April 4, 2005 resolution.

This language will be considered by the Transportation Advisory Committee at their meeting on May 18, 2005.

At the direction of the Chapel Hill Town Council I request that the Transportation Advisory Committee include the following language into the 2030 Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Long Range Transportation Plan. I have attached for your information a copy of a resolution adopted by the Chapel Hill Town Council on April 5, 2005.

• The Town of Chapel Hill has proposed that the fixed guideway corridor between the University of North Carolina main campus and the Horace Williams property use an alignment along Franklin Street rather than Cameron Avenue. While the Town recognizes that no final alignment can be approved until further environmental analysis is completed, the Town Council has indicated a strong preference for a Franklin Street alignment. The Town also believes that until additional environmental analysis is completed for this corridor and a specific alignment approved, land use decisions tied to a specific alignment are premature.
