SUBJECT: University Arts Common Plan Presentation

Tonight the Town Council will receive a presentation from University representatives regarding the University’s Arts Common Plan.
The University has been developing plans for an Arts Common, envisioned as the central location on the University campus for a mix of public and academic facilities for the fine and performing arts. These related facilities are proposed to be organized around new open spaces to promote the arts at the University. The area on the University campus is bounded to the north by Franklin Street, to the west by South Columbia, to the south by Cameron Avenue, and to the east by McCorkle Place extending east on Cameron Avenue to include Gerrard Hall and Playmakers.
Attached is a description of this project that was presented to the UNC Board of Trustees.
University representatives will present information on the status of this project at tonight’s meeting. We expect to offer additional updates in the future as discussions continue.
